[English Ver.]The movie describes opening of 1980s. It is started with talking about Margaret Thatcher, Diana Spencer, Falkland Islands War. And movie show us a boy. This ordinary boy is teased because of his pants, treated as troublemaker by people just like NAVER's review. and one day, he met skinheads. They are 'cooool guys' in NAVER's review.
The skinheads, starting take place in 1980s, are known as a group which shaved their hair and use violence. However, the early days skinheads are just group of anti-social and anti-culture that doesn't bound up with politics or nationalism. In a simple phrase, they are just rebel, I think. The 'cooool guys' in the movie are this 'early days skingeads'. They just broke windows or something in the dumped house and walk around in crowds.
But, boy met 'another' skinheads. This another skinheads are different with first of skinheads little bit. In history, after opening of 1980s, some of skinheads changed as chauvinist or jingoist by rightists like Front National. This their ideology is getting more excessive, changed again as white supremacy or racism. This is the 'another skinheads' who that met with boy.
A boy make broke up with original skinheads, and be on intimate terms with another skinheads. they says "England attacked by nearby country in history, and now people of England are losing thier job because of some other country." and they says "Give our blood for England!" at once. so they threatens Pakistani who play in backyard, steals convenience store where owned by Pakistani, and scribble by paint on the wall of house where live non-white people. This all of thing are so funny to a boy.
By the way, while skinheads are drinking, the 'national' and 'tribe' that they said all the time are appear on the surface as just 'anger against others'. The leader of skinheads shook his fist at a black skinhead member and nearby skinhead members either. Because he is black, he got happy family, and he is so fat.
The opinion that people of some other country take jobs away from us. and the opinion that people of cheap and nasty make us cheap and nasty too. This opinions looks like reasonable. But, It is so comedy that people fight between lines of 'nation' and 'race'. It is the things people make. Originally, there is no nation and no race at first time.

'디스 이즈 잉글랜드'. 셰인 메도우스 감독의 2006년작 영화다. 영국에서 만들어진 영화로, 2006년 영국에서 최고 작품상을 받았지만 우리나라에서는 크게 알려지지 못했다. 네이버에서 소개한 이 영화의 줄거리는 과연 글을 쓴 사람이 이 영화를 제대로 보기는 한 것인지 의심이 들게 만든다. "학교 애들은 내 바지를 보고 놀리기 바쁘고, 옆 동네 슈퍼 아저씨는 날 상종 못 할 말썽꾸러기 취급에, 엄마는 이래저래 간섭만할 뿐 모든 게 귀찮기만 하다. 그러다 동네에서 아주 쿨~해 보이는 형들을 만났다. 나이도 어린 나를 동료로 인정해 주고,찐하게 키스하는 법도 배웠다." 줄거리는 대충 맞지만, 내가 본 영화는 줄거리의 문체처럼 가볍고 경쾌하지 않았다.
영화는 1980년대 초반을 그리고 있다. 대처 수상, 다이애나 비, 포클랜드 전쟁을 이야기하며 시작하는 영화는 한 소년의 발걸음을 따라 움직인다. 평범하디 평범한 소년은 위 네이버 줄거리에서처럼 바지 때문에 학교에서 놀림받고 동네 사람들에게는 말썽꾸러기로 취급받는다. 그러다 우연히 스킨헤드족과 만나 인연을 만들기 시작한다. 네이버 줄거리에서 이야기하는 '쿨~해 보이는 형들'이다.
1980 년대 이전부터 생겨나기 시작한 스킨헤드족은 머리를 빡빡 깎고 폭력을 휘두르는 폭력집단으로 알려져 있지만, 초기 스킨헤드는 정치적인 이해관계나 민족주의 혹은 애국주의와 연결되지 않은 단순한 반사회, 반문화 집단이었다. 쉽게 말하자면 기성 사회를 거부한 사춘기 반항아 수준이라고 할까? 영화에서 어린 주인공이 길을 가다 만나게되는 이 '쿨~해 보이는 형들'도 초기 스킨헤드들로, 괴상한 옷을 입고 버려집 집에 들어가 창문이나 깨고 시끌시끌 몰려다니며 술과 대마초를 즐기는 청년들이었다.
그러나 주인공은 '또다른' 스킨헤드들과 만나게 된다. 이들은 주인공이 원래 같이 지내던 스킨헤드들과는 조금 다른 사람들이었다. 역사적으로 영국에서도 1980년대 초반 이후 스킨헤드들의 일부가 국민전선 등의 우익집단과 결합하여 쇼비니즘이라 불리는 광신적 애국주의, 배타적 애국주의에 물들게 된다. 이러한 이들의 사상은 점차 과격해져 백인우월주의나 반유색인종 이념으로 발전한다. 어린 주인공이 만난 또다른 스킨헤드들이 이들이다.
주인공은 원래 같이 지내던 스킨헤드들과 결별하고 새로운 스킨헤드들과 함께 지낸다. 스킨헤드들은 "영국은 이천년 역사 동안 수많은 침탈을 받아왔고, 지금에는 다른 나라의 민족들이 영국으로 몰려들어 영국인의 일자리를 빼앗고 있다"고 말하면서, "국가를 위해 이 한목숨 바치자"고 결의한다. 그리하여 공놀이를 하고 있는 파키스탄인들에게 흉기를 들이밀며 위협을 가하고, 파키스탄인이 운영하는 편의점을 털고, 유색인종이 사는 집에 페인트로 낙서를 한다. 주인공은 이 모든것이 즐겁기만 했다.
그러다 과격 스킨헤드 무리가 함께 모여 술을 마시던 자리에서, 그들이 외치는 '민족'과 '애국'이 한갖 '타인에 대한 증오'에 불과했다는 것이 드러나게 된다. 무리의 우두머리가 술에 취해 흑인 스킨헤드를 깜둥이라고 욕하며 구타하고, 주변에 있던 다른 스킨헤드들에게도 주먹을 휘두른 것이다. 그저 그들이 흑인이었다는 이유로, 행복한 가정을 갖고 있다는 이유로, 너무 뚱뚱하다는 이유로.
다른 나라의 민족들이 자국으로 넘어와 자국민의 일자리를 빼앗고 있다는 이야기, 그들이 값싸고 부리기 좋은 인력이기에 우리마저도 값싸고 부리기 좋은 인력이 되어가고 있다는 주장은 일면 타당해보인다. 하지만, 인간이 만든 국가와 민족, 인종이라는 굴레에 인간 스스로가 빠져들어 서로 물고 뜯는 상황은 너무도 희극적이다. 인류가 시작되던 때, 국경이라는 개념과 민족이라는 개념은 애초에 없었다.
